Well, the government didnt do anything and Mallya showed us what he was capable of doing, and now that has solved the problem of who would end up owning Gandhiji's long lost articles!!!
Now Mallya owns a part of the Mahatma; or rather thats what he wanted to do. As he doesnt have a chance to do the former, he settled to buy/ grab what he could afford to at a given moment. He has declared he wants to donate it to the Indian Government and is right now looking very smug in between all the hype and hoopla.
Maybe he wants to stick Red Kingfisher tags onto the specs.
Maybe insert special soft red colour leather wrap for it in the specs-case.
Or maybe the government offered him a special advertising space for UB group in and around the museum where the items would be kept for display in the future.
Anyway, the good news is that Gandhijis memorabilia has been bought with liquor-money, the one thing he was always opposed to second only to his abbhorance for Violence, and the government is patting itself for the 'efforts' put in.
Oh!! How far Gandhijis 'Bharat' has moved away from his ideals and dreams!!
Agree with your thots, yet, can't totally put off what Mallya did. A govt. governing over a billion people has the resources to squabble over politics, corruption & more, yet, not enough to rightfully bring back the Father of the Nation's prized memories. Anyhow, its dragging into further controversy with the owner demanding it back, poor Father must be turning in his grave!
ReplyDelete@pree : But coming to think of it... i dont think Bapu would have even considered his specs and chappals as India's heritage in the first place!!! He would be squirming thinking about what Mallya could have done to help India with all those millions instead of buying up and showcasing his old articles.
ReplyDeleteMs.Kunjhi...appreciate thghts on mr.gandhi's 'valueble' belongings being shwocased as jus things for sale....but 'we' also jus forgot or atleast cldnt spare much time when mr.gandhi's 'values' or his principles ( as we put it) is been lost ...or not given much importance in daily lives of we INDIAN'S...
ReplyDeleteEven i feel...Mr.gandhi would have been happy ...for someting that our munnabhai did...may sound carzy..but we know ..even for atleast one month after that film was relased....gandhi thgts was refreshed in many minds...including mine...
